# Cart attributes

> What the fields of your forms save on the cart line and on the order.

The fields you add to Smootify’s forms are saved in Shopify with the order: on one product line (line properties) or on the whole order (cart attributes). A name that starts with `_` is saved but not shown to the customer.

## Line properties

### Fields of the add-to-cart form

Every filled field of the form in [`smootify-add-to-cart`](https://www.smootify.io/docs/reference/elements/smootify-add-to-cart) is saved on the product’s line under its field name. It shows in the cart, at checkout and on the order. A checked checkbox saves its value. A field named `properties[Engraving]` is saved as `Engraving`. The fields named `quantity`, `id`, `option1`, `option2`, `option3` and `sellingPlanId` are not saved: they are the quantity, the variant, the options and the selling plan.

### Gift card recipient

`Recipient email`, `Recipient name`, `Message` and `Send on` on a gift card product: Shopify sends the gift card to the recipient on that date.

### Dynamic properties

The answer of a [`dynamic-property`](https://www.smootify.io/docs/reference/elements/dynamic-property) is saved under its Property Name.

### File uploads

A [`file-uploader`](https://www.smootify.io/docs/reference/elements/file-uploader) saves the file names under its `name` (`File` without one), which the customer sees, and a link to each file for the merchant, which the customer does not see.

### Magic Box

The fields of the form in [`smootify-magic-box-cart`](https://www.smootify.io/docs/reference/elements/smootify-magic-box-cart) are saved on the box’s line.

### Buy again

Buy again in an account order adds each line back with the properties it had.

## Cart attributes

### Fields of the cart form

The filled fields of the form in [`smootify-cart`](https://www.smootify.io/docs/reference/elements/smootify-cart) are saved on the order under their field names when the customer goes to checkout. Shopify shows them on the order under “Additional details”, not at checkout. The discount code (`coupon`), the gift card code (`gift-card`), the note (`note`) and the quantities are not saved this way. A select with multiple choices saves them separated by commas.

### From code

`Smootify.updateCartAttributes()` and the `attributes` of `/cart/update.js` set cart attributes from a script.

## Quotes and custom prices

When the cart becomes a draft order (a quote, or a price from Name your price or the Product configurator), its line properties and cart attributes go with it.
