# Elements

> Every Smootify element and template of 2.0, by area.

An **element** is a custom tag Smootify defines (`smootify-product`), or an element of yours that Smootify reads by an attribute (`[policy]`). A **template** is markup an element reads and repeats (`cart-item` in a cart): it is never defined on its own.
