Empty box subscription inventory
On every order of an empty-box subscription, Flow reads the chosen variants from the line and takes them off stock.
How it runs.
It starts in Shopify: no form involved.
- TriggerOrder created
- ConditionCheck if
- The order contains the empty box product
Otherwise the workflow stops here.
- Action 1
Read the variant ids from the hidden line property (a “Run code” step splits the list)
- Action 2
Decrease the stock of each of those variants by the box quantity, at the location that fulfils the order (“Send Admin API request”: inventoryAdjustQuantities)
What you need, and how to install it.
- Shopify Flow, free in Shopify
- Plan: Every plan No Smootify add-on is involved in the flow itself.
- Element:
subscription-swatcheson the box product - Element: The customer’s choices written as line properties: names visible, variant ids in a hidden property starting with _
- A Shopify subscriptions app that creates the selling plans. Smootify shows and sells them, it does not create them.
- An “empty box” product: a simple product that stands for the places, not the contents
- Install Shopify Flow from the Shopify App Store. It is free in Shopify, but it is a separate app.
- Place the Smootify element in Webflow:
subscription-swatcheson the box product. - Download the .flow file and import it in Shopify Flow.
- In the Condition step and in the “Run code” step, replace
gid://shopify/Product/0000000000with the id of your empty box product (both places). - In the “Run code” step, set
PROPERTY_NAMEto the name of the hidden property your box writes on the line, starting with_. - Test it once with a real submission or order, then turn the flow on.
Where people get stuck.
- 01
Every product in the box must cost the same. The box has one price, so a box that mixes a 4 and a 12 item does not work. Check this before you build the catalog.
- 02
Stock does not move on its own: what is sold is the box, not its contents. Without this flow, inventory is wrong from the first order.
- 03
A product without a selling plan shows nothing, and
subscription-swatchesdisappears. It looks like broken markup; it is missing configuration.
Get the .flow file.
In Shopify Flow, choose Import and pick the file. The workflow opens turned off: check that it reads your metaobject definition and its field keys, then turn it on.
