Sample request to draft order

A sample request sent from your site becomes a free draft order for the customer and their company, and your sales team is told on Slack to review it before shipping.

How it runs.

A Webflow form writes a metaobject; Shopify Flow takes it from there.

  1. TriggerMetaobject entry created
  2. Action 1

Build the draft order lines from the requested products, the first variant of each, with a 100% discount titled “Sample” (“Run code”)

  3. Action 2

Create the draft order for the customer, or for their company location when they buy for a company, with the tag sample and a note with the application, the expected quantity and the project date (“Send Admin API request”: draftOrderCreate)

  4. Action 3

Tell the sales team on Slack, with the products, the application and a link to the draft order (“Send Slack message”, Slack app)

  5. Action 4

Mark the request as “draft order created”

How to install
  1. Install Shopify Flow from the Shopify App Store. It is free in Shopify, but it is a separate app.
  2. In Shopify, create the metaobject definition sample_request with the fields below.
  3. Switch on the Metaobject creator add-on in the Smootify dashboard.
  4. Place the Smootify element in Webflow: metaobject-creator with data-type="sample_request" and customer-field="customer", for logged-in customers: a hidden products field on the product page, or a checkbox group on a samples page.
  5. Download the .flow file and import it in Shopify Flow.
  6. In the Slack step, pick your sales channel in place of #sales.
  7. Open the draft order link of the Slack message on the first request and check it opens the draft: it is built from the store’s domain and the new draft’s id.
  8. Test it once with a real submission or order, then turn the flow on.

Where people get stuck.

  1. 01

The draft order is not completed: a salesperson reviews it, then completes it as a free order and ships it.

  2. 02

The sample is the first variant of each product. If you sell samples as their own variant, such as “Sample”, change the Run code step to pick it.

  3. 03

The form does not limit how many requests a customer sends: add a condition on a tag or on their last requests if you need one.

Get the .flow file.

In Shopify Flow, choose Import and pick the file. The workflow opens turned off: check that it reads your metaobject definition and its field keys, then turn it on.
