Apps add features to a Shopify store; those that work in the admin or at checkout need nothing on the site, those with widgets for any website work with their code, and those written for Shopify themes may need a few changes.
Shopify apps, from the Shopify App Store, add features to a store: reviews, email marketing, shipping labels, subscriptions, loyalty. Smootify is one of them.
Where an app works decides whether it works with a Webflow storefront:
Works in the Shopify admin or at checkout
- What to do
- Nothing.
Has widgets for any website
- What to do
- Paste its code as its guide for other sites says.
Was written for Shopify themes
- What to do
- Paste its code with
type="smootify-load"(step 2), then test.
Calls its own pages through the store, on /apps/…
- What to do
- Ask the app for a version for other sites.
- In the admin or at checkout (shipping, accounting, checkout extensions, Shopify Functions): they work, because they run inside Shopify.
- Widgets for any website: they give a script for “other platforms” to paste into the site.
- Written for Shopify themes: they add blocks to the Online Store’s theme, which a Webflow site does not have. Many also call the theme’s cart endpoints, such as
/cart.js.
Before installing an app for a Smootify store, check its guide for headless or other platforms.
In Webflow terms
An app’s theme block is like a Webflow component that exists only in another site: on your Webflow site, you add the app’s code yourself.
In Smootify
Smootify answers the Shopify AJAX endpoints a theme app calls, from /cart.js to /search/suggest.json, on your Webflow site. Paste the app’s snippet with the script type smootify-load, so it runs once Smootify is ready, then test it.
