Shopify's free automation app: a workflow starts on an event, such as an order paid or a metaobject entry created, checks conditions, and takes actions such as tagging a customer or sending an email.
Shopify Flow builds automations without code. Each workflow has three parts:
- a trigger, the event that starts it: an order paid, a variant back in stock, a customer created, a metaobject entry created, a time of day;
- conditions: only orders above $100, only customers tagged
vip; - actions: add a tag, send an internal email, update a metafield, send a request to Shopify’s Admin API, call another service.
Workflows can be exported and imported as files, so one workflow can be shared between stores. Flow is free on the Basic plan and above; a few actions, such as calling outside services, need higher plans.
In Webflow terms
It is the Shopify version of the automations you would wire with Webflow’s form notifications and a tool like Zapier, but it runs inside the store, on the store’s own events.
In Smootify
Flow is the automation half of Smootify’s forms: a form on your Webflow site creates a metaobject entry, and Metaobject entry created starts a workflow. Back-in-stock alerts, review moderation and reseller applications work this way.
Back in stock
- Starts when
- The variant goes from zero to one or more in stock.
- Then
- It emails the customers tagged for that variant and removes the tag.

Price drop
- Starts when
- A daily check finds the variant cheaper than when the customer asked.
- Then
- It emails the customer and marks the alert as sent.

- The product, published with no stock, gets its first stock.
