2.0 Beta

Smootify 2.0 is in public beta. Your 1.x store keeps working. Move when you want.

What changed
Every plan

Every market, in the right language and currency.

The site speaks the visitor's language and currency. Products, prices and availability come from the right Shopify market, and the designer writes no logic.

On Webflow it works with Webflow Localization (Localize Essential, from $12 a month per added language) and with Weglot. Built in Astro, languages cost nothing extra: Astro’s i18n routing, with the product translations from Shopify. Country switcher, suggested-market dialog, pickup locations and store availability are components you design.

When a visitor changes country
  1. Webflow or Weglot settles the language first
  2. Smootify reads the matching Shopify market
  3. Prices, stock and currency load for that market
  4. Translated product links and hreflang are rewritten

What's in it.

Components come with every plan. Add-ons say which plan they need.

Country and currency switcher

Component

A dropdown with one entry per country. The active currency fills in wherever it appears.

Market suggestion

Component

A popover that offers visitors their own market, once, instead of leaving them on the wrong one.

Preferred store

Component

The customer picks a store once for pickup, and it applies to the whole catalog.

Store availability

Component

Stock per store on the product page: available in Milan, not in Zurich.

Webflow Localization

Integration

Webflow translates the pages and gives each language its address; Smootify reads the products in that language.

Shopify Payments

Integration

Local payment methods at the Shopify checkout, without a third-party provider.

Store locator

Add-on, every plan

Stores, dealers and distributors on a Mapbox map.

What happens when a visitor changes country.

The parts most people never find in the docs.

01

Language first, then data

Smootify waits until Webflow or Weglot has settled the language before reading the cache or asking Shopify. That is the difference between a page that settles and one that shows the wrong prices for half a second.

02

Keep Weglot if you have it

Native Webflow Localization and Weglot are both detected. A site already on Weglot does not have to switch.

03

Translated handles keep working

A product with a different slug in French still resolves. Smootify rewrites the links and adds the alternate hreflang tags.

04

Fixed in 2.0

In 1.x the market dialog never worked on Safari. In 2.0 the suggestion is a popover, in every browser, and asks the site’s own domain for the visitor’s country before any other service.

05

From the browser language

An option selects the market from the browser language, so a visitor arriving from a shared link sees their own market.

06

For developers

changeCountryByIsoCode() and changeMarketLanguage() drive the market from code when the URL structure is unusual.

Where people get stuck
  1. Markets are set up in Shopify first. With only the primary market, the switcher is empty and looks broken.
  2. On Webflow, native multi-language needs Webflow Localize Essential on top of the site plan, from $12 a month per added language. Without it, use Weglot. In Astro, languages are included.
  3. With Webflow Localization, change the language with Webflow’s own locale switcher: the page address changes with it. When a country shares its code with a language, such as Italy and Italian, the country switcher opens that locale too.
