Product rating from your reviews
Every night Shopify Flow adds the newly approved reviews to each product’s average rating and review count, ready for the stars on your site.
How it runs.
It starts in Shopify: no form involved.
- TriggerScheduled time
Flow has no trigger for a review being approved (a draft becoming active), so the workflow runs once a day, at 2:00 Rome time in the file.
- ConditionCheck if
- Only active reviews not counted yet
Otherwise the workflow stops here.
- Action 1
Get metaobject entries: the reviews, up to 100 per run, oldest update first
- Action 2
Run code: group the new reviews by product and compute the new average and count from the product’s current ones
- Action 3
Write the product’s standard metafields reviews.rating and reviews.rating_count (“Send Admin API request”: metafieldsSet)
- Action 4
Mark each review as counted (“Send Admin API request”: metaobjectUpdate)

- Add the counted field (True or false) to the review definition. Only the workflow writes it: the form does not send it.
- In Settings › Custom data › Products, add the standard definitions Product rating (reviews.rating) and Product rating count (reviews.rating_count) and give them Storefront access.
- After the import, set the time and the time zone of the schedule.
- Test it once with a real submission or order, then turn the flow on.
Where people get stuck.
- 01
The average only goes up with new reviews: a review you unpublish or delete after it was counted stays in the average.
- 02
Each run counts at most 100 new reviews; the rest wait for the next night.
- 03
Without the counted field the workflow would count the same reviews every night.
Get the .flow file.
In Shopify Flow, choose Import and pick the file. The workflow opens turned off: check that it reads your metaobject definition and its field keys, then turn it on.
