The cart is kept by Shopify, not by the site: its lines (variant, quantity, properties), the order note, cart attributes and discount codes all travel with it to checkout and end up in the order.
On a Shopify store, the cart is a record Shopify keeps: the site only shows it. It holds:
- lines: one per variant, with its quantity, its price after discounts and its properties, the answers attached to that line, such as the text to engrave or an uploaded file;
- cart attributes: answers for the whole order, such as a delivery date or a gift message;
- the order note;
- discount codes and gift cards applied;
- the buyer: the logged-in customer, their market and their company.
Everything in the cart goes to checkout and ends up in the order, where the store sees it.
In Webflow terms
Webflow Ecommerce kept its own cart. On a Smootify site, the cart you design in Webflow is a view of the Shopify cart: the same cart the checkout reads, so nothing is copied or lost on the way.
In Smootify
smootify-cart shows the cart, with a cart-item template repeated per line, the totals and the discounts. A form in the cart can write the note and cart attributes, and the add-to-cart form can write line properties. The cart keeps its id in the browser, so a visitor finds it again on their next visit.
