An order the store creates instead of the checkout, with the prices and discounts the store sets, which the customer pays through an invoice link.
A normal order starts in the checkout: the customer pays, and Shopify creates the order. A draft order starts on the store’s side. Someone, or an app, puts the lines together, sets prices and discounts freely, and sends the customer an invoice. When the customer pays the invoice, the draft order becomes an order.
Stores use them for:
- quotes, where the price is agreed before the customer pays;
- B2B orders, with prices and terms for one company;
- custom prices the checkout cannot take, such as an amount the customer chooses.
In Webflow terms
There is nothing like it in Webflow Ecommerce: it is an order the store prepares, which the customer pays later through a link.
In Smootify
Draft orders carry the two cases a normal cart cannot:
- Quotes (Draft Orders, Server plan): the cart sends a request instead of going to checkout, and you receive a draft order in Shopify with the lines the customer chose.
- Custom prices (Server plan): a cart with an amount from Name your price or a price from the Product configurator becomes one draft order, and the customer pays on its invoice page.
