Shopify creates the order at the end of checkout, with a payment status (paid, refunded…) and a fulfillment status (unfulfilled until you ship); fulfilling means packing and sending it, with tracking.
The order is created when the customer completes the checkout. From then on it carries two statuses, which move separately:
- payment: pending, authorized, paid, partially refunded, refunded;
- fulfillment: unfulfilled until you ship, then fulfilled, or partially fulfilled when only some items have gone.
Fulfilling is the Shopify word for sending the order: you pick the items, mark them as shipped, add the tracking number, and Shopify emails the customer. Stock was already taken from the location when the order came in.
Orders can also be refunded, returned, edited, or cancelled from the admin.
In Webflow terms
Webflow Ecommerce had its own orders panel. In a Smootify store every order is in Shopify, with its sales channel, so the store manages all of them in one place, whatever site or app they came from.
In Smootify
In the account pages, customer-orders lists the customer’s orders and order-page shows one, with its lines, totals, statuses and shipments. A button can put an order’s lines back in the cart, to buy them again.
