A group of products, such as "Summer" or "Shirts", either picked by hand (manual) or filled by rules such as a tag or a price (automated); a Webflow collection is something else, a type of CMS content.
The same word means two different things in the two tools:
- in Shopify, a collection is a group of products: “Summer”, “Shirts”, “Best sellers”. A product can be in many collections;
- in Webflow, a collection is a type of CMS content, such as Blog posts or Team members, with its fields and its items.
Shopify collections come in two kinds:
- manual: you add the products one by one;
- automated (smart): rules fill it, such as “tag is linen” or “price is under $50”. New products that match join it on their own.
Each collection has its own title, description, image, handle and sort order. Like products, a collection reaches a headless site only when it is published to that site’s sales channel.
In Webflow terms
With Smootify, your Webflow site has a CMS collection named Collections, and each of its items is one Shopify collection, synced with its title, image and handle. Its template page is the collection page. The products in it are not a reference field you fill by hand: Smootify loads them from Shopify, with filters and sorting.
In Smootify
On the collection page, smootify-search-discovery with data-collection lists the products of the collection, with filters, sorting and pages. Elsewhere, a product list with data-id="specific-collection" shows a collection’s products in their Shopify order.
