A starter project saves you the set-up: the CMS collections, the script and the common pages are already in place. This page says which starting points exist for Smootify 2.0 and what to do with a site made from a 1.x template. Every template, with its demo and its Figma file, is on the Templates page.

The starter project and the demo stores

The Smootify starter project is built on 2.0, with every page already wired to Smootify. The demo stores are complete stores, also on 2.0, each built around a way of selling. Pick one on the Templates page, clone it in Webflow, then connect it and sync your products:

  1. Connect the Webflow project: a cloned site is a new site for Smootify, so connect it;
  2. Sync the CMS with your own products;
  3. publish, after the checks before you publish.

Starting from a blank site

To build the store from scratch, start from a blank Webflow site:

  1. Connect the Webflow project;
  2. Create the CMS collections and sync them;
  3. Install Smootify 2.0;
  4. build the pages, starting from the product page.

Sites made from a 1.x template

The Smootify starter and the templates published for 1.x, listed under v1 on the Templates page, load the 1.x script. A site made from one of them keeps working on 1.x as long as it keeps that script. Nothing changes for it until you switch it.

To move such a site to 2.0, follow Move a site from 1.x. Do it on your .webflow.io address first, where the debugger points out what 2.0 reads differently. What changes for your site lists every difference a designer can see.

Where people get stuck

These happen after switching a 1.x site to 2.0. Each is covered in Move a site from 1.x.

Check these first

  • Links to products open a 404 page. 2.0 builds product links as /products/…. If the site’s product pages start with /product/, set productsBase: "product", collectionsBase: "collection" and vendorsBase: "vendor" in the options.
  • The login and register forms disappear. 2.0 supports only Shopify’s new customer accounts. Turn them on in Shopify and set newCustomerAccountsPublicKey: see Customer accounts.
  • Nothing shimmers while the page loads. 2.0 has no automatic placeholders. Add a skeleton attribute where you want one.
  • Variant values such as the SKU keep their placeholder text. 2.0 reads variant="…" only. Rename every variation attribute to variant, with the same value.
